WASHINGTON — Sources confirmed Tuesday that Air Force One was forced to abort its transatlantic journey and return to Andrews Air Force Base after staff discovered they had forgotten President Donald Trump’s McDonald’s order while en route to the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The error was reportedly identified roughly 45 minutes into the flight when the President conducted what aides described as a “routine pre-Davos fry audit.”
“We heard the unmistakable rustle of an empty McDonald’s bag,” said one senior official, speaking on condition of anonymity. “That’s when everyone froze. You don’t ignore that sound.”
According to flight logs, Air Force One immediately executed what officials are calling a “Golden Arches Reversal Maneuver,” banking hard over the Atlantic before returning to Maryland. FAA records list the reason for the diversion simply as: ‘Critical onboard morale asset missing.’
The President, sources say, had specifically requested:
- Two Quarter Pounders (no lettuce, “because that’s what salads are for”)
- Large fries
- Diet Coke (emphasis on diet)
- “Extra napkins. Tremendous napkins.”
White House logistics staff reportedly attempted to substitute the meal with an in-flight chef-prepared option, but the proposal was rejected outright.
“He asked if the chef had ever worked a drive-thru during a lunch rush,” one aide said. “When the answer was no, that was the end of that conversation.”
Upon landing back at Andrews, a motorcade was dispatched directly to the nearest McDonald’s, with Secret Service agents forming what witnesses described as a “tight defensive perimeter around the fries.”
The aircraft resumed its journey approximately 38 minutes later, after the President personally verified the contents of the bag.
“This is about preparedness,” Trump later told reporters. “You can’t go to Davos weak. You can’t negotiate global economics on an empty stomach. The fries were perfect. World-class.”
Officials in Davos were said to be understanding, with one European diplomat noting, “Frankly, it’s the most relatable thing any leader has done all week.”
The White House has since announced a new internal protocol requiring:
- Redundant fast-food checks
- A McDonald’s manifest
- And a standing rule that no international flight may cross the Atlantic without at least one confirmed bag of fries onboard.
As for Air Force One, sources say the aircraft has been cleared for future missions—provided the President’s McDonald’s is safely secured before takeoff.
